Chest physiotherapy aims at mobilizing and clearing of mucus and secretion, improving chest expansion, and improving cardiopulmonary condition in pulmonary rehabilitation.
It is used for patients in whom cough is insufficient to clear thick, tenacious, or localized secretions and those who are recovering from pulmonary disease. Examples include cystic fibrosis, bronchiectasis, atelectasis, lung abscess, neuromuscular diseases, pneumonias, and post operative patients.
Treatment techniques include postural drainage, percussion or vibration, breathing and coughing exercise, triflow exercise, suction and active mobilization.
